Jaloj-Kexoj - Examples in Mayan Weaving

An old wonan and her granddaughter are symbolic of Jaloj-K'exoj.

This ebook is a visual ethnography of the Mayan weaving in Guatemala. It demonstrates a connection between the weaving to the Tzutujil concept known as Jaloj-K'exoj (change), the Mayan Calendar, the Mayan number zero, the Rhombus, and other sociocultural, religious, and sociomathematical concepts. Though this is a synthesis of many Mayan tribes (Quiche, Tzutujil, and Kaqchikel) and emphasis is placed on Kaqchikel connections in the weaving. It is the product of 1 year of research that was carried out in Guatemala and the United States. This project could never have been completed without the help of the Mayan Shamans, cultural experts, and masters of weaving interviewed.
